“Cool Stuff and First-Round Subs”: Sebastian Oyervidez Keeps Climbing in MMA

Sebastian Oyervidez knows exactly who he is—and what he loves to do.

“I just be grappling—that’s all I do,” says Oyervidez, who fights out of Houston, Texas. Training for 12 years at Urban Jungle Self Defense, he’s also spent the last two years sharpening his game with the Thug U crew under Yves Edwards.

“Yves is the man. We have so many killers—Adrian Yanez, Cam Smotherman, Raufeon Stots, Matt Schnell—the training is top tier,” he says.

All that work has paid off with a flawless record: “All first-round finishes. 4-0 as an amateur, 3-0 as a pro. I try to keep the subs diverse, try different stuff every time.”

His start in MMA came after years of jiu-jitsu competition. “I was nineteen for my amateur debut. I told my coach I wanted to transition to MMA, and the rest is history,” he says.

While he’s focused on MMA now, he’s patient about his future. “I’m in no rush, bro. But I feel whenever I’m ready, I’m gonna be a star in the UFC—it’s gonna be great.”

Outside fighting, Oyervidez loves gaming, reading classics like The Art of War, and journaling to stay grounded. “If I have a bad sparring day—please believe everything is getting wrote in that book,” he says.

And when it comes to what fans can expect, he keeps it simple: “You’re going to see some cool stuff. You’re going to see some very cool stuff—so yeah, it’s going to be great, it’s going to be fun.”

Before heading back into the cage, he shares his gratitude: “Shout out to all my sponsors… shout out to my gym Urban Jungle Self Defense, shout out to Thug U crew, Yves Edwards, Michael Chase Corley, all of them, Ollin Athletics—I love all my people.”
