TRUE PASSION - Mike Torres Brings “Real Jiu-Jitsu” Into Title Match

HOUSTON - There are many ways that someone can approach grappling. There’s a wide variety of disciplines to the martial style, each with their own things that make them unique and interesting to watch. Among practitioners who can be called experts, Mike Torres, a first-degree black belt in jiu-jitsu and long-time competitor, has a unique passion for his discipline, and shares his passion with the students he teaches.

In an interview with Clear Life Media, Torres expressed his passion, “Being in the grind is my favorite thing to do. I’m right there in the trenches with my students 90% of the time.”

In the Main Event for the 98th edition of Submission Hunter, Torres will face off against Pedro Araujo for the 235 lb. Black Belt Nogi Title. Torres has competed under Submission Hunter for nearly a decade of his 16 years of jiu-jitsu training. And though Torres has sparsely competed in recent years, his heart still pulses with a fiery spirit, and he looks forward to being able to demonstrate the results of his constant training.

“Even though I don’t compete that often any more, it’s still really fun for me, it’s really enjoyable,” said Torres. “I feel like I’m always getting ready for something.”

The match is sure to be a spectacular capstone to an evening of intense competition. Torres knows that their match will be something special, and anticipates that Araujo’s formidable skill will help him bring out his own best.

“He’s going to bring his best game,” said Torres. “I think people are going to see us onstage, and I believe they’re going to be in for a treat. They’re going to see real jiu-jitsu, they’re going to see true jiu-jitsu.”

Submission Hunter 98 will take place on Friday, July 25th, 2025, and can be viewed on UFC Fight Pass, or in-person at Bayou City Event Center in Houston, Texas. Get your tickets at https://www.subhunterpro.tv/buy-tickets
