“Let’s Go, Bro”: Hernandez Hunts the 135-Pound Brown Belt NoGi Title
Nate Hernandez is no stranger to big moments—and he’s ready for another shot at gold.
Hernandez, who fights out of Inevāt Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, is stepping into the spotlight once again for Submission Hunter Pro, this time in the 135-pound brown belt NoGi title match.
“It’s vacant right now, so it’s going to be a pretty good thing to have on my accolades,” Hernandez says. “At first it was like, ‘Man, I can’t believe I’m here, man.’ I’ve always dreamt of having a strap. It felt so good to finally have a title.”
He’s already tasted victory on big stages, having won the 145-pound brown belt NoGi titleback in May.
Reflecting on that match, Hernandez recalls the action vividly. “It was a good match—almost had an armbar in the middle, you know, ended up catching a leg lock at the end.”
Standing across from him this time will be Vic Lomax, a familiar opponent from Houston, Texas. “I fought him for my first brown belt match actually—like after I got promoted, I think a week later I got a super fight against him,” Hernandez says. “I ended up getting a sub pretty quick.”
Still, Hernandez welcomes a tougher challenge this time around. “Hopefully this time he’ll come back a little bit stronger so we could put on a better show,” he says.
And as the title bout approaches, he keeps his message simple and focused. “You know, all I gotta say is good luck, you know—let’s go, bro. I’m ready to go.”
Submission Hunter 98 will take place on Friday, July 25th, 2025, and can be viewed on UFC Fight Pass, or in-person at Bayou City Event Center in Houston, Texas. Get your tickets at https://www.subhunterpro.tv/buy-tickets
