“Bringing That Belt Home”: Vic Lomax Fired Up for 135-Pound Brown Belt NoGi Title Clash Against Nate Hernandez
HOUSTON – For Vic Lomax, fighting isn’t just about personal achievement—it’s also about making his kids proud.
“Definitely gives me a lot of motivation, especially when my kids wanted me to bring that belt home to ’em,” says Lomax. “Gives me a little bit more motivation to fight a lot harder for it.”
Vic, who fights out of Ground Dwellers, is set for the 135-pound brown belt NoGi title match against Nate Hernandez at Submission Hunter Pro.
He’s been building toward this moment for years. “Started training about fifteen years ago,” Lomax says. “When I was fifteen, I started off training Muay Thai, and I moved closer to Ground Dwellers, and it wasn’t too far, so I started training jiu jitsu there.”
Most recently, Lomax stepped onto the Submission Hunter Pro stage and made a statement. “I competed at the last Subhunter and I won by submission from a triangle off the back,” he recalls.
Now, with gold on the line, Vic is ready to put it all out there. “So far it’s been pretty good—I like it a lot,” he says. “I love to get this opportunity to be on a big stage and to show my level of jiu jitsu.”
And he knows his upcoming opponent is no easy task. “I’ll be going against Nate Hernandez for that 135 title, and right now that means everything to me—this belt means a lot,” Lomax says. “Even his name means a lot for me. I mean, I respect the guy a lot—he’s a big name to go against and he’s a high-level competitor. I think that it means even more to get that win against him.”
With his family behind him and years of training in his corner, Vic Lomax is determined to bring the belt home—and prove himself on one of grappling’s biggest stages.
Submission Hunter 98 will take place on Friday, July 25th, 2025, and can be viewed on UFC Fight Pass, or in-person at Bayou City Event Center in Houston, Texas. Get your tickets at https://www.subhunterpro.tv/buy-tickets
