Returning to his Roots: Phillips Set To Deliver Championship MMA Fight to Louisiana

Lafayette, LA - This weekend’s most anticipated fight at Ragin Fighting Championships is undoubtedly the main event: Aaron Phillips vs RJ Casper. Despite his last fight being two years ago, in April 2023, Phillips is certain that the bout will be an explosive ending to an exciting, action-packed night.

“Not only am I going to be the main event of the night, but it’s going to be under the brightest lights Lafayette has seen in quite a while,” said Phillips. “The night of fights is set up with a star-studded professional card, and I’m honored to be the capstone on that.”

This is the first-ever bantamweight championship for Ragin FC, and Phillips hopes for nothing more than to honor his career beginnings with a stunning display of skill to claim the belt.

“This event is so important to me because I had my first-ever MMA fight 17 years ago here in Lafayette, Louisiana,” said Phillips. “Right down the street in Blackham Coliseum, and just a stone’s throw away from the Cajun Dome Convention Center.

Since that first appearance at the 2007 ISCF Collision At The Coliseum, Phillips has accumulated a professional record of 12 wins and 5 losses. Phillips is unsure of how long he will continue to fight, but knows that until he does, he’s going to put in as much effort as he can.

“I don’t know if it’s going to be my last one, but it’ll definitely be my best one,” said Phillips. “I fight and compete because of something inside of you. Something to prove to yourself, not necessarily to anyone else. But, the moment that I wake up and I don’t have that desire to level myself up personally, to develop myself and my skillset, then I’ll lay it to rest, but I still got it. I got time in the octagon, in the cage, to get it done.”

Phillips knows the key to a good bout is a good opponent - in this case, RJ Casper, from Austin, Texas. Casper began his 12-year career in Kansas City, Missouri, in the 2013 edition of KC Fighting Alliance. His last fight was less than a year ago, in October 2024, and earned him his 7th career win.

“My message to my opponent? We’re cool, we’re good,” said Phillips. “But, I’m prepared, I know he is, too. Let’s put on a show, for [his] fans, for my fans, and bring the best out of each other.”
