“Step By Step”: Davor Gallegos Prepares for Fury FC Challenger Series 14
HOUSTON - For Davor Gallegos, every day in MMA is about progress—both inside and outside the cage.
“My goal is for my MMA career to eventually make it to the UFC,” says Gallegos, who fights out of McAllen, Texas. “But as far as for day-to-day, I’m just trying to get better.”
Ranked #164 among amateur bantamweights in Texas, Gallegos (0-2) is set to face JT Salinas, the #74-ranked amateur flyweight in the state, in an amateur flyweight bout at Fury FC Challenger Series 14. Salinas trains out of Strong Style MMA, a gym Gallegos respects.
“I’m fighting JT Salinas out of Strong Style—that’s a good camp, a good gym,” Gallegos says. “I train out of Metro Fight Club. I’ve got super high-level teammates: Adrian Yanez, Cameron Smotherman, and Raufeon Stots.”
Despite his current record, Gallegos remains determined, driven by both passion and purpose. “I’ve been training for 3-4 years,” he explains. “And it seemed like something fun that I should be able to do—and working hard at it. Every day I wake up trying to be better as a person and a martial artist. It gives you something to wake up to every day.”
His eyes are firmly set on a future in the UFC, but Gallegos knows the journey is built one day at a time. “I’ll definitely make it to the UFC, you know, long-term,” he says. “But every day I’m just trying to look better every day.”
As fight night approaches, Gallegos is eager to show the progress he’s made and to pay tribute to those who’ve supported him.
“I want to shout out Metro Fight Club for giving me everything, giving me the chance to fight,” he says. “It’s one of the top promotions. All good talents—so I’m just trying to show them I’m one of the best. I’m just trying to go out there and show my advancement as a martial artist, and I’m just trying to put on a good show.”
