THE GRIND - Cody Freeman Faces Off in Featherweight Title
HOUSTON - Featherweights are often overlooked in favor of their brethren in heavier weight classes, but these fighters bring frightening speed and execution that can’t be found anywhere else. This weekend at the 105th Fury Fighting Championship, one featherweight fight to look out for is the title match between two tenacious Texans, Cody “Bison” Freeman and Cameron “Camikaze” Graves. With two fighters each sporting an impressive record, there’s no doubt that the fight will be a dead heat, with each fighter pushed to their limit.
Houston’s own Cody Freeman is the #16 ranked featherweight fighter in the US Southwest, and sports a record of 10-6, with one knockout. Between fights, he trains at Main Street Boxing & Muay Thai. In an interview with Clear Life Media, Freeman said of his training environment, “There’s no off rounds when you’re in this room, it’s a grind at all times.”
If there is one word to describe Freeman’s career, it would be just that: a grind. He has grinded through high points and low points, and through every professional bout. Freeman himself is thankful for his struggles and credits his recent victories to his hard work.
“I’ve fought at the highest level of competition throughout my entire career,” said Freeman. “I’ve had some setbacks, but I’ve always challenged myself to really face the best that I can. And, I think that’s really been coming to fruition these last few months. Those years of hard work… they’re showing in these last few fights.”
Those recent fights are nothing short of spectacular; his three most recent bouts have been victories by submission, and he hopes to continue the streak with another decisive win against Graves.
“I knew going into this win streak that it’s just a ‘win or go home ’- type mindset,” said Freeman, in an interview with Clear Life Media. “That’s exactly what I’m bringing into this… I’m looking for finishes, I’m not trying to go to decisions. I want finishes, and I want finishes over guys like Cameron Graves.”
Any type of victory against Graves will be hard-fought and a grind in its own right. Graves, also from Houston, is the #7 ranked featherweight in the US Southwest, and sports a career record of 14-7, with eight of his wins earned by knockout. Like Freeman, Graves is also on a three-win streak, his last being earned through unanimous decision at Fury FC #100 in January 2025, to win the featherweight title. Nevertheless, Freeman is unfazed, and his mindset is strong
“I’m treating it just like it’s any other fight,” said Freeman. “It doesn’t matter what the implications are of me winning this belt. I’m just going to go in and try to put Cameron Graves’ head on my mantle.”
